There are many ideas out there on what makes a good church website or something… well not so good. You know what I mean. You find a church website that looks interesting, eye catching but not over the top. Then you find one of those sites a church put up a few years ago. The first thing you notice besides the annoying music and cheesy layout is that it hasn’t been updated for 3 or more years. Not good.

The first person that sees those sites  and was thinking of going to that church will quickly change their mind. It’s what I would do. So if you are looking for information on good website ideas read several articles and incorporate the best of the ideas that apply to your site. Or you can ask us. We would be happy to help you. In this article we will quickly cover what makes a church website design effective and pleasing to your target audience. Church websites are special, because they must reflect what your church is trying to convey to visitors. Often times this is an emotional feeling of love, joy, and acceptance. Let’s pretend a visitor sees your church’s website. Will they be impressed? Are you taking the opportunity to convey to them they will have a loving, joyful experience at your church? Unfortunately most church websites are not successful at this. Does your church website convey the feelings of “outdated”, “cheesy”, “disorganized”? Here are some tips to help.

1. Use pictures of people – We are not just talking about a photo gallery. Incorporate pictures of people throughout the design. It helps to convey a message of loving and satisfied people.

2. Offer easy navigation – Let your visitor find service times, directions, and contact information quickly.

3. Samples of atmosphere – Your design and content should accurately reflect your church’s essence. If you are a modern contemporary church, your website design should reflect that. If you are a traditional church, your website should reflect that as well.

4. Use breadcrumbs – This helps visitors also navigate your site. Breadcrumbs are quick menu navigation using text. For instance Home.. Articles.. New Story #1

5. Online gallery – Offer visitors a chance to see what activities your church participates in.
