Bethany Christian Church

Job Description for Student/Family Minister

The S/FM should possess the ability to relate to, encourage, and spiritually challenge a wide variety of young people as well as those in the congregation and those who would visit with us. The S/FM should possess the ability to recruit, train, and equip youth and/or families for the implementation of scheduled programs. The S/FM should be actively involved in family development of those whom he ministers to.

The S/FM must be a college graduate from a recognized Christian Church/Church of Christ college and/or be ordained by a Christian Church/Church of Christ in good standing.

The S/FM, while answerable to the Elders, is accountable to the Sr. Minister on a day-to-day basis.

Primary Responsibilities:

• Schedule and oversee: Sunday School Youth classes

Wednesday evening Youth classes

Quarterly activities for each of the following groups:

Sr. High, Jr. High, and their families

• Hospital, home, and extracurricular visitation

• Youth counseling and family evangelism

• Attend monthly staff meetings and monthly Deacons & Ministry Team Leaders meeting

• Attend Elders meetings as directed by the Elders

• Exhibit positive attitudes toward the church and its leaders, lay and professional

• Encourages the development of close Christian friendships based on trust and acceptance

• Encourage parental involvement so that both youth and parents will work together in a Christ-like manner

• Expected to work with our campus Christian school, PCS, as well as the public schools that Bethany youth attend

• Preach from the pulpit eight times a year in the Sunday morning service as directed by the Elders

• Prepare youth budget to be presented to the Elders in October each year

• Develop own spiritual life by growing in self-discipline in all areas, especially in prayer, Bible study, and witnessing

• Equip youth to share their faith with those outside of Christ

• Other ministerial duties as directed by the Elders

Involvement in programs, such as:

• VBS (youth responsibilities)

• Summer camp

• Impact and Launch (Sr. and Jr. High State Christian conventions)

• Various summer youth conferences

• Youth mission trips

Involvement in programs as time and interest allows:

• College age outreach and communication

• Area-wide and statewide youth ministers’ activities

• Develop relationships with schools, churches, and other organizations that support our efforts to reach students in the church and the community

This job description is impossible in the natural, but not in the Supernatural, and upon that, the S/FM must depend.
