Title: Director of Children’s Education and Ministry
Area: Pre School through 5th Grade
Immediate Supervisor: Senior Minister
GENERAL DESCRIPTION:
This full time position is responsible for the oversight of our children’s education ministry (Pre School – 5th Grade) and the children’s ministry volunteers. This individual will be a key part of the KCC Ministry Team and must continue to provide a comprehensive plan for this ministry which complements the Church’s long-term vision. This plan must include the development and implementation of a workable vision that has measureable goals set to further this ministry. It is also a position that will require strategies to recruit to advance, maintain, and train volunteers which are the backbone of our children’s ministry. Candidates are subject to a background check conducted by the Virginia State Police.
EXPERIENCE, TRAINING AND/OR EDUCATION:
• Must be dedicated to the cause of Christ and be willing to submit to His Lordship. Additionally, must be knowledgeable in the Bible and Church of Christ/Christian Church doctrine.
• Bachelor’s Degree preferred in either Bible and/or Elementary Education.
• Preferred 5 years experience working in a leadership capacity within children’s ministry interacting with children and families, either as a volunteer or paid staff member (e.g. Choir Leader, Christmas Play Director, Children’s Church Leader . . .)
• Strong planning, organizational and administrative skills.
• Enthusiastic, Self-motivated and self-directed problem solver.
• Good interpersonal and communication skills (written, electronic, and oral).
• Working knowledge of MS Power Point, MS Word, and other technology applications.
• Clean driving record and able/willing to obtain Commercial Drivers License (CDL)
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:
These represent the fundamental job requirements which an individual must be able to perform to accomplish the basic duties of the job:
Staffing/Volunteer Functions:
• Oversee and build a Children’s Ministry team of volunteers.
• Develop a comprehensive Children’s Ministry strategy to recruit and maintain volunteers for all areas of children’s ministry.
• Secure supplies and provide volunteer training as needed to minister effectively to children. (This involves providing resources, training, and encouragement).
• Ensure that Children’s Ministry adheres to the Child Protection Policies.
Programming and Ministry Functions:
• Work with Senior Minister and the KCC Staff as required to develop Children’s Ministry goals, ministry interface, direction, and vision in line with the purpose and mission of KCC.
• Give direct oversight to all other areas of Children’s ministry (special events, ordering materials, managing schedules, recruiting volunteers, etc.). Oversight of this ministry will require forethought which will lead to long and short term planning of events/functions.
• Supervise any church-wide special events that include a children’s program (e.g. Children’s Spring Cantata, VBS, Fall Festival, and Children’s Christmas Play).
Administration:
• Work with the KCC office manager to track and manage children, families, and volunteers associated with Children’s ministry.
• Maintain an inventory of the Children’s resource room (supplies, snacks, etc. . .).
• Communicate regularly with parents/volunteers regarding schedules, events, changes.
• Implement safety and security procedures for the Children’s Ministry program as a whole.
• Oversight and management of the Children’s Ministry budget areas.
• Attend Staff Meetings.
• Complete any other duties/functions assigned by the Senior Minister.
Working Environment:
KCC Ministry Team includes a Senior Minister, Associate Minister, Music Minister, Youth Minister, Children’s Director, and Office Manager and is a growing, fast paced, dynamic and transitioning environment. As Children’s director you’ll be a vital part of the KCC Ministry Team as you work under the leadership of the Senior Minister and the oversight of the Board of Elders.
