In the national transformation of marriage the battle continues to garner the clergy in the struggle for national gay marriage. One wonders if the real reason is intellectual, spiritual or monetary. It seems that this issue promises to increase the coffers of those who perform marriages and in one article gay marriage was seen as a boon for the economy.
Now in Iowa 167 clergy including Christian have signed a letter urging support for gay marriage. As support gains and church support the movement it will eventually become difficult for independents to remain able to perform marriages and still reject gay marriage. This will be the end to the social standardization of Christian style marriage. This is only the first issue that wil arise as others will follow in its steps.
The Interfaith Alliance of Iowa has presented legislators with a letter co-signed by 167 Iowa clergy. The letter urges Iowa senators and representatives to support “marriage equality” and “oppose any resolution or attempt to diminish the marriage rights” of gay couples. Connie Ryan Terrell is executive director of the Interfaith Alliance of Iowa.
